WHY I CAME ONLINE
They say every journey has a first step. For me, my online journey started with one simple decision; a decision that, at the time, felt small, but has since shaped so much of who I am today.
This post is going to be a deep one, because it takes me back [way back] to some of my earliest memories of being on the internet. I’ve been trying to recall that very first day I took my phone, made the choice, and decided to come online. The first platform I joined was Facebook.
I still remember the feeling. I actually wanted to feel like a “big girl.” You know that youthful excitement of wanting to belong, to be part of what everyone else is doing? That was me. Back then, I didn’t even have a WhatsApp account. All I wanted was to create a Facebook profile, have friends, post pictures, and scroll through other people’s lives. In my mind, Facebook was the place to be, the proof that you were part of the modern, connected world. So, I joined.
That was me then. But if you look at me now, you’ll see that my online presence has grown far beyond that innocent curiosity. Today, I’m not only on Facebook; I’m also on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Threads. I have multiple Facebook pages, numerous business accounts, and even three separate Instagram accounts. Each one serves a different purpose.
If you asked me today, “Why are you online?” my answer would be very different from what it was years ago. It’s no longer about feeling like a big girl or keeping up with trends. My drive has changed completely. Now, my purpose for being online is to build my brand.
As the days and years go by, I keep gaining new insights, discovering fresh ideas, and developing deeper interests. Adulthood comes with responsibilities, but it also comes with visions. Visions of businesses, projects, and solutions that can make a difference. Every time a new idea is born in my mind, I feel a strong urge to give it life, to give it an identity. And for me, that starts by creating a platform for it. That’s why I open new accounts. Not because I want to collect accounts like souvenirs, but because each one represents a unique dream, a skill, a business, or a mission.
One thing about me is that I don’t just create for the sake of creating. Each account has a goal. It could be to share knowledge, to promote a service, to inspire others, or to connect with people who need what I have to offer. Over time, my online presence has become a garden; each page, each profile, each platform is like a plant I am nurturing, hoping it will grow and bear fruit.
So why am I online today? To grow myself. To grow my brand. To grow my business. But beyond all that, to use my talents and skills to make a real impact. My roots may have started in curiosity, but my branches now reach toward purpose.
