If you are not sure about your writing voice, Embrace reflection. It has worked for me, and it will work for you, too.
Reflecting on your writing voice can help you identify your strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement.
7 Steps to help you reflect on your writing voice
🌎 Read your past work:
Gather a selection of your past written pieces, including articles, blog posts, stories or even social media posts.
Read them with a critical eye paying attention to;
~Tone: is it formal, informal, funny or serious?
Sometimes I can be all these things but I'm mostly informal( I write like I'm talking to a friend).
~Language: Are you using simple, complex or technical Vocabulary?
For me, I love keeping it simple, if you are a fan of my work, you can tell that I don't write complex words.
Style: Is your writing descriptive, concise or narrative-driven?
My writing style is mostly concise and narrative-driven.
🌎 Identify your weakness as you read your past work:
As you read your past work, make a note of;
~ What do you do well? Are you skilled at crafting compelling openings, Writing engaging dialogue or conveying complex ideas simply?
I'm all these and the arrangements are in the right order ☺️
~ Areas for improvement: Do you struggle with grammar, punctuation and consistency?
I used to struggle with punctuation but I'm better now and still improving.
🌎 Consider Your Influences:
Think about the writers, authors, or bloggers who inspire you. Analyze their writing styles, tone, and language. Ask yourself:
~ What do I like about their writing?
I love Danlok because of how he broke down Complex terms with storytelling; I love reading his emails.
~ How can I incorporate those elements into my writing?
Practising how to do the same without copying his voice.
