What I Do (Even If I’m Still Figuring It Out)
In the short story I shared previously on how curiosity and fun first brought me online in the first place and how a single moment with my little relatives watching a western cartoon took a new turn and made me realize that I didn’t just want to be an online observer anymore. I wanted to do something to make a positive change
Basically, what I do is teaching an African language and Promoting the culture.
I choose to start with the Igbo language as Charity as we usually say, "Begins at home".
In recent times, most people do not connect culturally and morally with the African tradition. This is because there seem to be limited sources to learn these. By diving into modern technology, culture can be fun, look modernized, and interactive as well.
So I started "A–Z of Igbo Made Easy" to take care of African cultural and moral needs which is not just about teaching vocabulary or grammar but protecting identity, reviving traditions, and making sure the next generation, whether in Nigeria or the diaspora, has something to hold on to and it comes in different forms. We have cultural cartoons for kids, videos and documentaries for both learners and lovers of the culture.
This is a way through which parents in the diaspora who want their children to blend in the culture and understand where they come from, can actually benefit them.
Families who want safe, culturally-rich alternatives to some of the entertainment out there.
What I do involves creating spaces—both online and offline—where language learning is not a chore, but an enjoyable experience just like watching a fun programme or playing fun games. I design lessons that feel like conversations, not lectures. I write educative short stories. I host sessions where students can learn through proverbs, folk tales, and songs, just like in the days of tales by moonlight.
And yes, I’m still figuring it out.
Running A–Z of Igbo Made Easy means wearing many hats:
I’m a teacher, preparing lessons and guiding students through the language.
I’m a content creator, making posts, videos, and materials to keep learning exciting.
I’m a marketer, sharing my work so that more people discover the platform.
I’m even a researcher, digging into old stories, songs, and sayings so they aren’t lost.
Some days are good students enjoy, have fun, learn, and surprise themselves with how much they have learned. Other days, I’m troubleshooting a Zoom issue, network issues or wondering if my content is reaching the people who need it most.
But every single day, I remind myself of the reason I started:
If we don’t intentionally pass on our language and culture, they will quietly disappear, replaced by things that don’t reflect us.
That’s why I focus on making my lessons feel relevant.
The vision is continuous. I see A–Z of Igbo Made Easy becoming a global hub for Igbo learning. It should be where one can find courses, games, cultural events, children’s programs, and even collaborations with schools. I want it to be the first name people think of when they decide to learn Igbo.
So yes, I’m still figuring out the better business model and the best ways to reach more people, but I know my mission is clear:
To teach, preserve, and celebrate the Igbo language and culture—one lesson, one story, and one learner at a time.
