In Africa, we've been conditioned to follow a linear path:
Go to school → Get good grades → Get a job → Rent a house → Marry → Retire → Die
But this path is flawed. It's a recipe for mediocrity, not greatness. Where's the impact? Where's the innovation? Where's the entrepreneurship?
I know this firsthand. In my second year of university, I realized that this path wasn't for me. I had physical skills like POP designing, but I knew I needed more. So, I took matters into my own hands and learned digital skills - product marketing, marketing research, sales closing, business development, self-marketing, copywriting, and more.
It wasn't easy, and it took time to master them. But today, I'm grateful for those skills. I've worked with several organizations like WAF INSTITUTE, iCredence Concept, Newton Academy and currently Swiftly Rescue, delivering remarkable results. also co-founded Afriplat and Ar hotel Consults. I've broken free from the limitations of the traditional path and created my own success.
What's wrong with Africa is the mindset that says 'play it safe' instead of 'take risks.' It's the mindset that values conformity over creativity, and stability over innovation.
Here's my advice:
Don't follow the crowd; create your own route. Take the road less traveled. Learn new skills, challenge yourself, and innovate. Don't be afraid to fail - it's often the best teacher.
Let's break free from this limiting mindset. Let's reprogram our minds to think differently, to think boldly, and to think entrepreneurially. Let's create a new path, one that values impact, innovation, and progress.
Poverty is not just about financial struggles, but a mindset that limits our potential. Just like the programming principle 'garbage in, garbage out,' our thoughts shape our reality. What we feed our minds with determines what we produce.
Poverty is a state of mind, and we have the power to change it. Let's unleash our potential and build a brighter future for Africa.
